Rök & dimma i paradiset...

Nu har "The Haze" drabbat Singapore & lagt sitt rökfyllda täcke över landet. Utanför fönstret kan vi både se & känna lukten av rök idag. På regeringens hemsida (nea.gov.sg) skriver de att PSI-värdet (Pollutant Standard Index) just nu är "moderate" men eftersom det under veckan succesivt har ökat så kommer vi att följa utvecklingen på hemsidan & hoppas på att värdena nu vänder & vi återigen kan få se en blå himmel ovanför våra huvuden. I vanliga fall brukar värdet ligga på "god nivå" (0-50).

Regeringen skriver om the haze:
Singapore has been affected by severe smoke haze due to forest fires in the region periodically. This is due to the common practise of open burning to clear land for agricultural uses. It can be made worse by dry seasons, changes in wind direction and poor precipitation. Prevailing winds sometimes carry smoke haze produced by the forest fires over Singapore’s skies. This is especially so during the Southwest Monsoon Season.

...& gällande säsongens skrivs följande:
Southwest Monsoon conditions have onset over the region since the beginning of the week, with low level winds blowing predominantly from the southeast or southwest. The Southwest Monsoon season typically last from June to September and is the traditional dry season for the southern ASEAN region. In the coming months, occasional extended periods of drier weather can be expected in the region. During the season, increased hotspot activities may be expected in Sumatra and Borneo. In addition, transboundary smoke haze could affect the region during periods of persistent dry weather conditions.
